1970's Styling Photoshoot
I wanted to bring the playful, expressive energy of the 1970s into a modern photoshoot, using fashion, movement, and nostalgia to tell a story. Inspired by retro silhouettes, bold prints, roller skates, statement accessories, disco balls, and vibrant colours, I developed a mood board to establish the visual direction for the shoot. From there, I planned the styling, accessories, props, poses, and location, choosing an indoor roller-skating rink and arcade to naturally capture the fun atmosphere of the era. One of the biggest challenges was balancing the busy environment and low lighting while still keeping the model and outfit as the main focus. I experimented with positioning, movement, and available lighting to create images that felt energetic while maintaining a strong fashion focus. The final photographs brought the concept together through a combination of colour, movement, and nostalgic details, creating a playful visual story that feels inspired by the 70s while remaining contemporary. This project taught me how important location, styling, props, and creative direction are in building a cohesive fashion story, and how unexpected environments can become an important part of the final image.
